I read Amelia after A Good Marriage, which may have colored my perspective, but I thought they were both excellent reads. I particularly enjoyed Amelia because of the differing viewpoints and timelines from which it was written. I know there are those that find this method confusing or difficult to follow, I think it lends to the realism because that seems to be the way my mind works - jumping from thought to thought and back and forth in time.Amelia was a typical teen. As many do, she had a busy single parent and a school life with difficult waters to navigate. She was trying to fit in and maintain her life-long friendship. While her mother was trying to balance work/home life, Amelia was trying to juggle her old friendship with new "friends" and expectations. What a struggle for them both! It's incredibly sad that we try so hard to balance and please all those competing elements in our lives. I wish we were more concerned with being happy with ourselves.Dare I also say, the initial police investigation into her daughter's death was so poor as to have been conducted by a rookie detective. Thankfully she was able to get some qualified help or Amelia's mother may have never learned the real cause of her daughter's death. Point of order - no professional police officer or detective would have ever allowed a victim's relative to participate in any part of an investigation, especially the interviews of witnesses and suspect. It's just not done.After several turns down the wrong road, I was surprised and sad to see the end and the cause of Amelia's death revealed. Sorry to all people named Paige Turner. Ahem, excuse me, back to reviewin':This book hooked me in with its gripping and cliffhanging summary: "days later her mother received a text, "She didn't jump." It only took me about about a page and a half to realize the target audience for this book was teen girls and women. As a man in his late twenties, I fall in neither of those categories...Nonetheless, I still enjoyed reading. The book goes back and forth between two characters very smoothly, blending together past and present in a way that won't make your head spin. Plus is has a juicy, supple, moist, mouthwatering twist ending that I didn't see coming, despite having 30 different theories as to what happened.
